About Lance Armstrong: Leadership is not all about winning!

July 26th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Book Review

Lance Armstrong gave lots of interviews, all showing Armstrong’s matter-of-fact leadership qualities. I liked the CNN — I guess it’s a teaser — video where Sanjay Gupta speaks with him. Sure, he wanted to come in first, but he has no problem admitting that what’s great about the Tour, is that “the best man always wins.”

But later, after the race, he mentions that Contador won because of the Astana team support and Contador failed to mention that. If a team doesn’t support a rider, it will be really hard for him to win even if he is the strongest person in the pack.

Same goes for a business. It usually takes more than one person to build a successful company. There are lots of “domestiques” in the background.
